Abstract: |
A watching brief during soil stripping to the south of the present courtyard of Knowle Hill was undertaken to establish if a previous structure had stood there. No traces of a building was found, but excavation did not exceed modern levels. At the far eastern edge of the terrace a gravel surface, interpreted as a pathway, was observed. This was thought to date from Sir Robert Burdett's alterations after circa 1761, although this may may have followed the line of an earlier walk. [Au(adp)] |
