Abstract: |
A preliminary structural investigation was carried out on an underground structure, discovered during work on a building. The feature was dated to the 19th century from the form of the bricks from which it had been constructed. It extended c.6m north to south and c.1.8m east to west and its floor level extended 2.1m below ground level. A scale plan of the location of the feature prepared by the architect was enclosed in the letter. The feature appeared to represent a water storage cistern as it had been waterproofed internally. The plan for the development was that the feature be uncovered, reduced to the new floor level for the kitchen extension and filled with concrete. This would have then allowed for the recording of the feature during this process. [Au(adp)] |
