Abstract: |
The remains of a stone wall comprising mortared granite and boulders was found below an existing standing 19th century building during a watching brief maintained over the excavationof foundation trenches for a replacement WC. The wall may have represented the foundation of a 16th century timber-framed building at the rear of 42 Silver Street. A remnant of a dark reddish clay silt layer containing 17th and 18th century pottery fragments was revealed, and one 15th century pot sherd also recovered. [Au(adp)] |
