Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during works associated with the construction of a stable block, at a site which was thought to have lain within the Deserted Medieval Village of Coley, which had been listed in Domesday. No negative features which could have represented the ghosts of timber structures were observed, and no traces of silt which could have derived from decayed timber were seen. Three sherds of 19th-20th century pottery were observed, but were not retained. It was concluded that the exact location of the Domesday settlement of Coley remained uncertain. [AIP] |
