Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at Somerset House, an 18th century Grade I Listed Building, prior to replacement of the surface of the South Terrace. The site lay at the centre of early medieval Lundenwic; 7th-9th century features and pottery had been excavated nearby. During the evaluation, brick vaults and disused land drains beneath the terrace were recorded. 17th-18th century pottery and clay pipe fragments were recovered. It was concluded that a watching brief should be undertaken during reduction work. [AIP] |
