Abstract: |
The watching brief identified the line of a wall, the bricks of which suggested a 16th/17th century construction date. An adjacent dark silt may have been a contemporary surface, or was likely to be a bedding for such, but the overlying mortar layer could only have been a destruction deposit perhaps dating to the 1660s when the Tudor palace was demolished. Structural features revealed at the western end of the data cable route were identified as the original perimeter wall of the Infirmary built in the 1760s and demolished in the 1840s. [Au(adp)] |
