Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the removal of an existing section of the Pennine Way long distance footpath, in an area where it coincided with the Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail, and fell within the SAM of Hadrian's Wall and its associated features. The alignment of the existing path was to be slightly altered. The site of the works lay immediately to the south of the Wall as it climbed the steep western slope of Cuddy's Crag. Removal of the existing steps demonstrated that tumble from the Wall had been used in their construction. However, no significant archaeological features were recorded during the watching brief, and the only artefacts present were of a modern date. [AIP] |
