Abstract: |
An excavation was carried out to investigate a medieval pit found during an evaluation. Early medieval ditches and a cemetery had been excavated nearby, and the site lay immediately east of a 19th century church built on medieval foundations. A substantial assemblage of 11th-13th century pottery was recovered from the pit. Two further medieval pits and two 18th-19th century pits were also found; one of the latter may originally have been dug as a well. Two sherds of 18th century pottery and a clay pipe stem were recovered. [AIP] |
