Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out across the site in advance of proposed development. Nineteen evaluation trenches were placed across an area of cropmarks. The limited evaluation confirmed the survival of significant archaeological deposits already suspected from cropmarks and previous archaeological work. Five main areas of archaeological importance were highlighted and these included evidence for Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age burial mounds, Late Iron Age, Romano-British settlement, and Early Saxon to Middle Saxon settlement. Burial within ring ditches was confirmed and the site of a first century AD cremation cemetery was discovered. [Au(adp)] |
