Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken during groundworks across the site in response to a condition upon planning permission for the conversion of a barn to living accomodation. Gravely Hall Farm was the site of the manor of Gravely Hall and was located immediately south-west of the parish church. A survey of the earthworks in fields immediately to the west and north-west of the farm had revealed the remains of a possible medieval manorial complex. Observation of the present groundworks revealed evidence for post-medieval yard surfaces, a well and an area of infilling which may have been associated with an earlier pond in the field to the west of the barn or may have been part of a hollow way.
