Abstract: |
The assessment site contained cropmarks that had been interpreted as prehistoric trackways, boundaries and an enclosure. It was possible that this formed part of a prehistoric landscape, perhaps Neolithic, that was potentially significant. The nearby settlement of Dorobrivae points to the likelihood that the area became heavily Romanised, giving way to a dominant Saxon presence that linked through to the modern era. In the medieval and post-medieval periods the area was thought to be used for agricultural purposed, perhaps cereal cultivation. The land remained undeveloped until the construction of the A605 bypass that formed the south-eastern boundary to the site. [Au(adp)] |
