Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of a proposed development site within the area of Roman Londinium was undertaken. Roman walls had been discovered on the site in 1922, and further remains had been excavated nearby. A Roman road may have lain adjacent to the site. Early medieval pottery had been found to the north, and a church on the western side of the site may have had an early medieval foundation. The area was intensively developed from late medieval times onwards. It was concluded that previous development would have truncated any archaeological remains, although deep cut features could survive. A watching brief was recommended. [AIP] |
