Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken of the site prior to its proposed redevelopment comprising the demolition of existing warehouse/industrial units and the construction of new office buildings. The site lay in close proximity to the site of Three Ways Wharf where nationally important deposits of late-glacial and early Mesolithic material had been located and investigated, and on topographic grounds the study site should contain similar alluvial deposits. However, site investigation works indicated that site preparation works, presumably in connection with the construction of the existing development in the 1960's resulted in site levelling and the deposition of Made Ground across the site. This process appeared to have removed all archaeologically sensitive alluvial deposits. As a result, it was suggested that the proposed development of the site would not have any adverse archaeological implications. In these circumstances, no further work or mitigation measues were recommended. [Au(adp)] |
