Abstract: |
The archaeological work undertaken during the coast protection works has resulted in the preparation of a record of the 1841-2 sea wall. The wall itself was constructed in line with Smeaton's specification, as was, to a certain extent, the wooden toe. Some of the differences between the specification and the actual construction of the toe may have related to alterations made following damage to the sea wall during the mid 19th century. No other remains, including defensive works dating to the Second World War, were exposed during the coast protection works. [Au(adp)] |
