Abstract: |
An excavation at the site revealed five phases of activity. A Bronze Age boundary ditch, orientated east-west and containing pottery indicative of a nearby settlement, was encountered. The second phase consisted of an Iron Age boundary ditch enclosing heavily truncated smaller enclosures. This was overlain by a medieval field or paddock system of narrow north-south orientated plots dating to the 12th and 13th centuries, into a fourth phase of larger east-west aligned strip fields. Post-medieval remains were scarce and comprised the corner of an 18th century field truncated by a 19th century rubble drain. [Au(abr)] |
