Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out during groundworks at Chapel Farm, Wigmore. Post-medieval deposits were recorded which probably related to a phase of development of the house, which dates from the early 15th century. The presence of a number of blocks of masonry, of possible 12-13th century date, was of particular interest. When considered with other similarly dated material from the site, including a Norman window arch, this material supports the argument for the location in the near vicinity of Chapel Farm of the Church of the Blessed Mary and St Leonard, which formed part of the properties of the nearby Limebrook Priory (HWCM 3959).[AIP] |
