Abstract: |
The assessment identified that the Roman Road from London to Silchester may have passed through the north of the site. The site was believed to have had a good archaeological potential for the medieval and post-medieval periods. In particular, the northern part was occupied by Almshouses from at least 1839-c.1935. Past post-depositional impacts on the site had been extremely severe. It was thought that well preserved archaeological deposits would have only survived to the north of the existing building.
