Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken during the excavation of the foundation trenches and terracing of the site in advance of new development. The site lay in an area of archaeological importance and the work was undertaken in order to fulfil a condion upon the planning consent. The terracing of the ground and the excavation of the foundation trenches did not uncover any archaeological features across the southern area of the site. The street frontage was also inspected and it was evident that the ground had not been disturbed prior to 1860 (when the house was built). It was concluded that the monitoring programme was entirely consistant with the results of the earlier evaluation, that is, no. 38 was not built upon prior to c.1860. [Au(adp)] |
