Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at a proposed development site which lay within or near the fields of a 14th century priory, where plague victims had been buried. A rubbish pit containing 13th-14th century pottery and a ditch containing 12th-13th century pottery were revealed. The latter had been backfilled and used as a path. Early post-medieval gravel pits, a cess pit and a ditch were recorded, and 16th-18th century pottery was found. It was concluded that further excavation should be carried out, and that any intrusive groundworks should be monitored. [AIP] |
