Abstract: |
Fieldwalking was undertaken at the proposed site of a residential development. Archaeological sites recorded in the vicinity had included cropmarks of field boundaries, other linear features and a ring ditch, a possible medieval moated site, a concentration of burnt flint and the line of a Roman road. During the fieldwalking survey, concentrations of burnt flint were recorded which suggested some form of prehistoric activity in these areas. However, the small size of the assemblage rendered any suggestion of settlement activity as opposed to a general background presence rather tentative. No Roman material was recovered, and only one sherd of medieval pottery was found, which indicated that no Roman or medieval activity had occurred at the site. Concentrations of post-medieval brick, tile and pottery could be attributed to waste disposal. [Au(adp)] |
