Abstract: |
The evaluation was carried out in advance of a proposed redevelopment of land at Weeke Manor. Seven trenches suggested that the archaeological potential of the site was limited to the medieval period and later, with the main area of interest being in the area of terracing south-west of the Manor House. Medieval intercutting features were identified as well as associated pottery dated to AD1270-1450, the features suggested evidence of domestic occupation in the area which may have continued for a considerable period of time. The presence of 19th-20th century levelling layers, together with a truncated post hole and a possible wall foundation cut suggested considerable construction activity within the area. [Au(adp)] |
