Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of foundation trenches for an extension to a cottage. An abbey founded in Kingswood in 1139 had later been reduced to grange status, and a new abbey had been founded in c. 1164-70. The remains of walls and a sandstone floor thought to relate to the abbey had been observed 15m to the east of the site in 1993. During the watching brief, post-medieval artefacts were recovered, but no further evidence of the abbey was observed. [AIP] |
