Abstract:
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the construction of a bungalow and double garage. The site was located in the vicinity of the medieval village of Clementhorpe. A ditch running approximately north-south, parallel and adjacent to Clementhorpe Lane, was recorded during the excavation of the garage footings. A number of finds were recovered from the ditch fill ranging in date from medieval to 19th century; the ditch was probably medieval in origin, being in-filled in the subsequent periods. A number of finds were recovered from the topsoil including a silver 'long cross' penny of Edward I, minted in London between 1279 and 1307 AD. [Au(abr)]
