Abstract: |
The report summarises the results of an archaeological assessment of the proposed water main to the north of Catterick. The 4.5km pipeline would physically affect one area of a ridge and furrow field system to the east of Fountain Head and would also be aligned along the course of Dere Street Roman road for a length of 400m on Gatherley Road. There was considered to be the potential for previously unrecorded Roman remains to survive within the vicinity of Dere Street and High Gatherley. It was recommended that groundworks along the southern half of the route should be archaeologically monitored and any areas of interest recorded. [Au] |
