Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken prior to the proposed residential redevelopment. The site was thought to have a low or moderate archaeological potential for the prehistoric periods and for the Roman period, and a low archaeological potential for the Saxon, medieval periods and post-medieval periods. Post depositional impacts on the site varied from moderate to severe. The proposed development could potentially have a severe but localised impact on any archaeological deposits which might occur through the construction of new footings and service runs. However, the proposed development was relatively small, comprising three new houses, two of which were largely sited over the footprint of the existing house - where disturbance to archaeological deposits would have already occurred. It was therefore recommended that an archaeological monitoring exercise (watching brief) during development groundworks would be an appropriate archaeological mitigation strategy. [Au(adp)] |
