Abstract: |
Before the capping of six disused coal shafts at Willams Gill and Punchard Gill, between the village of Arkengarthdale and Tan Hill, the sites were surveyed and photographed. No external or internal features were seen at any of the smaller shafts, and a very small number of of loose finds were recovered. At Willam's gill colliery, the remains of deliberate capping by a stone Vault was found. A number of other blocked shafts were observered. [Au(adp)] |
