Abstract: |
<summary>An evaluation was undertaken of an area of land proposed for an extension to a quarry. A contour survey of earthworks on the site identified [?a] pit[?s], hollow[?s] and bumps associated with lead prospecting, and an enclosure bank. Trial-trenches were excavated across the enclosure bank and across a supposed lynchet. One of the trenches across the supposed enclosure bank revealed a ridge of raised subsoil/bedrock, whilst a second trench seemed to have crossed a genuinely artificial earthwork. The supposed lynchet was shown to be a natural break in slope. Flint and chert artefacts were recovered from all the trenches, and with the exception of a possible chisel arrowhead, were all of late Mesolithic type. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
