Abstract
Time & tide. The Thames Archaeological Survey: two years on
Mike Webber
1 - 2
A brief history and progress report on a project whose aim is to complete a baseline archaeological survey of the foreshore of the tidal Thames between Teddington and Greenwich. Opportunities for the involvement of local groups are stressed.
Manifesto for the Millennium: a new manifesto for British archaeology
2 - 3
Sets out an agenda for the end of the twentieth century devised by Rescue, an independent national archaeological organisation. The main issues for discussion are: a definition of the purpose of archaeology; funding and structure; a review of current practice for the preservation of sites; the primacy of research; conditions of employment; and a perceived fragmentation of the archaeological profession.
Hedgerow protection
A J Scrase
5 - 6
Points out some shortcomings of the 1997 Hedgerows Regulations (see 97/997) and considers how the regulations may be implemented. The potential uses and limitations of the old Enclosure Acts for protecting historic boundaries are also considered.
