Reports on excavations undertaken on a small cliff terrace on the peninsula off the north-west Cornish coast. The site lies below the `Middle Terrace', where C A R Radford excavated a building in the 1930s. The latest work uncovered several phases of ephemeral stone and turf structures with associated hearths, floors, and stakeholes. Occupation phases were separated by levelling deposits, and the latest phase was buried under layers of landslip. The section on artefacts begins with `Non-ceramic finds' by Colleen Batey (66--74), which includes reports on: slate (such as firelighters and discs/lids); undated (but conceivably IA) `Flint' (71) and `Worked quartz' both by Colleen Batey & Antony Pollard; other worked stone; metal (iron and lead) `Industrial debris' by Colleen Batey & Effie Photos-Jones (72--3); `Glass' by Hilary E M Cool (73--4); and `Charcoal' by Colleen Batey & Vanessa Straker (74). A report on the `Ceramics' by Carl M Thorpe (74--82) covers RB native wares and post-Roman Mediterranean imports. `The ecofactual assemblage' is discussed by Rowena Gale (83--108) and incorporates: `Charcoal from hearths, floors, layers and stakeholes' by Rowena Gale & Vanessa Straker (101--6); `Bone fragments' by Sebastian Payne (106--7); and `Burnt bone recovered from samples' by Simon Mays (107--8). `The radiocarbon dating programme' is discussed by Alex Bayliss & Rachel Harry (108--15) -- an innovative mathematical modelling technique produced date ranges for three phases of activity (within a maximum range AD 395--670). Appendices provide details of recorded finds and environmental samples (126--35).

Applies archaeological techniques to the structural analysis of a particular type of post-medieval building. Combined with documentary evidence, the study also looks more widely at the development of cottage architecture and the cottage in clan society.

Reports on a geological, geomorphological, and sedimentological study that provides a detailed trans-zonal framework for examining the significance of an eclectic variety of artefactual and documentary evidence of human activity on the tidal stream (Magor Pill). The shoreline has retreated a minimum of 800m since the Iron Age and Roman times, exposing silted up palaeochannels that yielded small amounts of stratified occupation debris (IA, RB, med and post-med), together with baskets and hurdles relating to post-medieval and probably also medieval fishing. One palaeochannel contained the wreck of a thirteenth-century clinker-built boat carrying iron ore. The largest quantities of occupation debris, however, were transposed and mixed into the semi-mobile foreshore gravels. This material demonstrates that at Magor Pill there had been a thriving RB settlement, a medieval port, and post-medieval cattle-trading activity. There is also evidence for the repositioning of sea defences at various periods.

Describes the find made during a watching brief in All Saints' Church in 1994. This is the fifteenth fragment of pre-Conquest sculpture to come from the church that is thought to be an early `minster'.

Describes a small hollow globe from the National Maritime Museum collections. The exterior is engraved with a terrestrial map, while the surface is pierced so that the constellations can be viewed from inside when the hemispheres are separated and held up to the light.
