In view of forthcoming redundancies of many churches, the Research Committee of the Society of Antiquaries is co-operating with the Council for British Archaeology in a scheme to demonstrate and fulfil the archaeological potential of churches when investigated to the highest modern standards of above- and below-ground examination.

The method of manufacture and application of plaques is discussed, also the use and length of life of moulds in modern ceramic factories, together with the results of experiments in laboratories on the colour and content of clay slips. Described and illustrated are 30 plaques and 12 moulded beakers. The (lost) Oundle Form 64 by LIBERTVS is discussed and there are further comments on the black "cup" from Colchester. Au

The evidence of inventories and port-books shows that chafing-dishes were widely used and traded between 15th-18th centuries, the types ranging from vessels of precious metals to everyday objects of pottery, which presumably imitated the metallic forms. This paper, which is not claimed to be exhaustive, defines seven types of "latten" vessels current during the period. Tentative dates could be assigned to only four of the types, the remainder being interpolated into the chronological scheme on typological grounds. Four of the types were thought to be of Continental manufacture; two might be English. Au(adp)

This lamp, shaped as a mythological animal, is so similar to the lost Lincoln example as to suggest one workshop, if not one mould, as responsible for both. A case is put for these, and the Zugmantel example, having been made in E England.
