Presents three case studies from northern Greece. The feasibility of the method was established at a mound where the tomb had already been located by excavation. Two further sites were then investigated. It was found that the construction ramp was more easily detected than the tomb itself, which is usually small.

Magnetic and electromagnetic prospecting do not deliver equivalent information on magnetic susceptibility, and this is demonstrated both theoretically and experimentally. There are advantages in applying both methods simultaneously on magnetically favourable archaeological sites. Brief case studies are drawn from an iron smelting site and a tile/brickmaking (both in France) and a Neolithic ring-ditch (in Germany).
Scatness, Shetland: an integrated survey of a multiperiod settlement mound

Reports on an integrated topographical, magnetic, and resistivity survey of the deeply stratified mound that includes a broch. Experience of similar sites demonstrated the value of integrating both magnetic and resistivity data sets. Increased resistance probe separation, enabling greater resolution at depth, and the use of resistivity pseudosections provided greater detail of the buried archaeology. The integrated approach allowed excavations to be targeted to address specific questions on the development of the settlement mound.
GPR and archaeology in central London

The results of a major ground-penetrating radar survey in the Fleet Valley area of London are presented and discussed in the light of data produced by subsequent excavation. The GPR profiles failed to correlate with the excavated data, and the possible reasons for this failure are discussed. It is suggested that the establishment of a GPR survey database may allow the identification of GPR `fingerprints' for a variety of archaeological deposits and features. Acceptable codes of practice and a standard methodology are also thought necessary if the technique is to establish itself in the mainstream of British archaeology.
Integration of air photo interpretation and field survey projects

It is suggested that there are historical reasons why specialist interpretation and mapping of aerial photographs has rarely been employed on large-scale survey projects in Britain. However, examples drawn from the Fenland Project demonstrate the advantages of combining aerial photographic survey with fieldwalking. The efficacy and limitations of each form of survey are identified, and it is shown that a considerable increase in archaeological information is gained by integrating the two. It is suggested that improved archaeological survey designs would propose a complementary succession of air photo and surface survey episodes.
