Abstract
Location of archaeological structures using GPR method: three-dimensional data acquisition and radar signal processing
S Malagodi
L Orlando
S Piro
F Rosso
13 - 23
Sir System 10 (GSSI) equipment with different antennas operating at 100, 300, and 500 Mhz were used to survey an Italian Iron Age necropolis site. Filtering and a two-dimensional migration technique were applied to increase the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio. A time-slice representation technique was adopted to give a planimetric correlation between anomalous bodies at different depths.
Velocity analysis in archaeological ground-penetrating radar studies
Lawrence B Conyers
Jeffrey E Lucius
25 - 38
Discusses various methods for determining radar wave velocity for a given subsurface, stressing the importance of this value for the accurate calculation of the distance and depth of detected features.
Soil science and the interpretation of archaeological sites: a soil survey and magnetic susceptibility analysis of Altofts `henge', Normanton, West Yorkshire
D Weston
29 - 50
A magnetic gradiometry survey of a feature scheduled as a henge picked out the bank and also a spur feature; however the magnitude of the gradiometer readings was deemed too large for a henge. Subsequent soil augur survey of the spur suggested that the monument is actually a relatively recent industrial feature, probably related to a nearby shallow coal mine.
