Abstract
Roman and prehistoric discoveries at Bannister Gardens, Orpington
Brian Philp
25 - 28
Note on an archaeological evaluation undertaken in 2004 on a site in the northeast sector of Bannister Gardens, Orpington. Limited excavations revealed two post-holes and two pits, one of which contained 121 fire-cracked flints and seventeen flint flakes of probable Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date, as well as a large pit containing nine sherds of pottery provisionally dated to the second half of the first century AD, a fragment of Roman roof tile and six struck flints.
Stone Chapel, Ospringe: a preliminary note
Alan Ward
29 - 39
Article on the Chapel of Our Lady of Elwarton at Stone in the Syndale Valley, describing the evidence for Roman through to medieval phases of activity, including the fourth-century Roman cellar; the Anglo-Saxon timber church; and the stone church, believed to be of eleventh-century date. An erratum is printed in Kent Archaeol Rev 163 (2006) page 51.
Keston Windmill
Patricia Knowlden
45 - 46
Note on the windmill at Keston, describing the possible documentary evidence for its existence during the medieval period and giving a brief description of the present mill, which was built in 1716.
