The excavation of a 19th century clay tobacco pipe kiln in Boston, Lincs

TF 326441. A rectangular brick updraught kiln was constructed about 1845-55, with a drying chamber added about ten years later; both continued in use until about 1919. The excavation produced groups of pipes sufficiently closely datable to provide a foundation for a local typology. D W C
