The north-western frontier of Viking Mercia: the evidence from stone monuments

Based on suggestions that the monuments fall into regional groups and that their areas of distribution may indicate boundaries, an attempt is made to identify the line of demarcation agreed upon by Alfred and Guthrum in 877.
