The load-carrying capacity of the Belfast truss roof

Discusses a type of braced timber truss was used from at least 1866 up to the 1930s. The truss enabled wide spans to be roofed and it was notably used in early aircraft hangers. This article assesses the load-bearing characteristics of the truss using manufacturer's records and experimental data from two surviving examples at the Baltic Timber Co, Belfast.
