Abstract
Excavations at Cairnderry chambered cairn, south-west Scotland
Vicki Cummings
Chris Fowler
1 - 2
Account of the excavation of a Neolithic chambered cairn in the Bargrennan group. The cairn seems to have been constructed in a single phase, directly on top of the land-surface. Pottery fragments, flints and two pieces of Arran pitchstone appeared to indicate Early Neolithic pre-cairn activity. Four pits were found under large slabs outside the kerb; these each contained cremated bone and charcoal, and one also contained an upturned collared urn and a battlexe, as well as an accessory cup, all of which date to the later part of the Early Bronze Age.
