Socketed axes and Late Bronze Age hoards: an economic perspective

Examination of all hoards (irrespective of size) with socketed axes leads to the theory that, at the close of 8th century with iron coming in, bronze axes were becoming redundant to the needs of the travelling smith, though prestige items in bronze could continue.
