Archaeological fieldwork at Freeman's Farm, Felton
Lynne Bevan
Peter Ellis

Donna E Yorkston
Philip J Piper
5 - 17
Reports on the excavation conducted in 1994 of a site in a former market garden at Aldermoor Way. Evidence was revealed for occupation from the prehistoric period to the twentieth century, mainly comprising Romano-British settlement with burials and industrial activity (iron working). Finds including metalwork, worked stone and flint are summarised and there are specialist reports on `The pottery' (RB and med, and including RB tile) by Jane Timby (13--14); the `Examination and classification of the slags' by Gerry McDonnell (14--15); and the `Examination and classification of the bone assemblage' [including human bone] by Geraldine Barber (15).
Excavation of a Bronze Age settlement at Savages Wood, Bradley Stoke
J G P Erskine
18 - 23
Reports on extensive excavations undertaken in advance of a proposed superstore development. Post-hole structures, including roundhouses, were revealed, while some unusual post-trench or eves-drip features suggested two sub-rectangular structures. Summary finds reports include `The pottery' by Elaine Morris (22) and also cover flints, environmental samples and bone.
Excavations at Harry Stoke, Stoke Gifford, Northavon
Andrew Young
24 - 55
Sets out the results of two stages of excavation undertaken on a medieval rural settlement in 1987 and 1988. The `Historical background' is summarised by Lee Prosser (24--6). Five dry-stone buildings were revealed, including dovecotes. Finds reports include `The pottery' by Rod Burchill (40 & 42); worked stone; residual worked flint; `The metalwork' by Anne Thompson (45--7). `The carbonised plant remains' by Julie Jones (48--51); and `The animal bone' by Dale Sarjeantson (51--4).
Archaeological investigations on the proposed line of the A46 north of Bath
Peter Ellis
56 - 67
Presents the findings of an archaeological assessment carried out over the proposed route during 1992. Fieldwalking, trial excavation, geophysical survey, and building recording techniques were employed. Four of ten sites identified are discussed in detail: a round barrow/barrows at Mouse Barrow, Tolldown; a RB settlement at Nimlet, `The finds' from which are discussed by Lynne Bevan (60--1); a medieval farmstead near Hartley Farm, with `The finds' by Lynne Bevan (62 & 63); and an Iron Age field system on Charmy Down.
