Abstract
Prehistoric Warwickshire: a review of the evidence
Richard Hingley
1 - 24
An update on information gathered since 1974 (see also 75/3253) from aerial survey, field survey, excavation, and stray finds gives an overview of some 750 prehistoric sites for the region.
Warwickshire in the Roman period: a review of recent work
Paul Booth
25 - 57
Update on information gathered since the last overview in 1974 (see also 75/3332).
Anglo-Saxon cemeteries along the Avon Valley
William Ford
59 - 98
Burial sequences at AS cemeteries in the area -- particularly Alveston Manor (Stratford-upon-Avon) and Stretton-on-Fosse (both Warwcks) -- were established using gravegood typologies. Subsequently, statistical approaches to the dating of graves thought to illustrate AS incursion and settlement patterns on the RB landscape were employed. Skeletal remains, cultural and trade connections, along with different brooch-type and weapon distribution, are all analysed.
Reconstructing Anglo-Saxon landscapes in Warwickshire
Della Hooke
99 - 116
Archaeology, toponymy, charter evidence, and the study of standing buildings are all employed to create a partial picture of the Late AS landscape.
Rural settlements in medieval Warwickshire
Christopher C Dyer
117 - 132
Provides an overview of the subject in the light of new research, including small excavations and work on a large scale at Burton Dassett Southend, ground-level and aerial survey, and fresh investigations of the documentary evidence. New thinking on rural settlements and landscapes is incorporated into a reassessment of villages and hamlets in the area.
Innovation and conservatism: the development of Warwickshire houses in the late 17th and 18th centuries
Nat W Alcock
133 - 154
A checklist of coins from Warwickshire in the collections of the Department of Antiquities, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery
155 - 157
