Abstract
The castles of Wales during the Civil War, 1642-1647 historical sources
J Gwynn Williams
1 - 26
The barrows of east-central Powys
Christopher J Dunn
27 - 42
The study assesses the morphology, relative dimensions, distribution, and topographical siting of the barrows by means of detailed fieldwork which revealed many not previously recorded. Of the 1-3 long barrows and nearly 40 round, many are still reasonably well preserved, but all must be seen as under threat. They offer new information on the occupation of the S Central March in Neo-BA times.
A hill-slope enclosure in Coed y Cymdda, near Wenvoe, South Glamorgan
Henry Owen-John
43 - 98
An unfinished subrectangular earthwork defined an area of c 5000m2: the defences were sectioned and much of the interior was mechanically stripped without revealing any structures. Most of the artefacts (Late Meso, Late Neo, MBA) predate the construction of the enclosure in ?LBA. Later activity was intermittent only. Four 14C dates run from 12th to 3rd century bc. Specialist reports on lithics, pottery, and a few bones.
Roman inscribed building-stones from Wales
G R Stephens
99 - 107
Catalogue and discussion of over fifty stones, mostly centurial, with comment on the relative amounts of legionary and auxiliary work.
The excavation of the Exchequer Gate, Denbigh
Christopher Smith
108 - 112
Documentary evidence indicates construction in 1280s for this double-towered gate, part of which was excavated.
The St David's Cathedral bishop's throne and its relationship to contemporary 14th century ecclesiastical furniture in England
Charles Tracy
113 - 118
Catalogue of Welsh ecclesiastical seals as known down to AD 1600. Part V: other monastic seals
David H Williams
119 - 134
Reclamation and sea defence in Rumney parish (Monmouthshire)
John R L Allen
135 - 140
RB field ditches on the foreshore of the Wentlooge Level are mapped following their emergence after intense sea-scouring in 1987. The engineers had exploited a system of meandering tidal creeks. Their sea-bank was moved inland in mid-12th century or later, and realigned in late 16th century (see also 87/521).
