A period of close relationships across the sea evident in Neo houses, pottery, and megalithic tombs gave place to a divergence in Late Neo when Wales looked eastward instead, and different facies of Beaker style and content are apparent. The Irish-Welsh relationship is seen again in the copper and bronze industry, but by the Acton Park phase the Welsh industry was independent. In LBA and EIA defended settlements are less common in Ireland, whereas Navan and Dun Ailinne are not paralleled in Britain; water-based religion is popular on both sides, but Llyn Cerrig Bach material looks firmly southeastwards, with no Irish parallels. Finally Ireland receives a few refugees from Roman domination.

Stone walls, possibly prehistoric, seem to partition this landscape. Other sites in Wales, as well as on Dartmoor, support the argument that the potential of uplands for agriculture and settlement, as well as for ritual, should not be underestimated. Au(adp)

At the mansion of Ynysymaengwyn a 18th century milestone was found to be reused from the Early Christian period, originating probably from the Towyn monastic enclosure.
