An archaeological excavation on the site of Deptford power stations prior to redevelopment of the site followed an evaluation that identified two areas where significant archaeological remains survived. The first of these excavation areas, on the site of the Trinity House almshouses, revealed three major phases of building. The earliest structural remains correspond to the documented sixteenth-century origins of the complex, while the subsequent buildings date to the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The second area revealed the structural remains of a dockyard, founded by the East India Company in the early-seventeenth century. Excavation exposed slipways and wharves of the dockyard, and waste products associated with shipbuilding activities were recovered. Evidence for the medieval river embankment pre-dating the dockyard was also recorded. The manufacture of pottery is another known activity on the site during the eighteenth century. Excavation in advance of roadworks at Denaby Main, South Yorkshire, successfully identified the remains of the mid-nineteenth-century Denaby pottery, of which the location, form and range of products were largely unknown. The excavated remains include three buildings/work areas, four kilns and a sizeable assemblage of pottery and kiln furniture. In response to the coastal erosion of the eastern end of Cille Bhrea chapel and graveyard, which had exposed human skeletal material, excavation took place of this medieval and post-medieval church and graveyard at risk from erosion. The 1998 excavations at Cille Bhrea recovered information on a sequence of fifty graves along the eroding edge of the Cromarty Firth. The fabric of the chapel was also exposed, recorded and the very eastern limit of the chapel excavated. Pottery recovered from the site indicated activity during the twelfth to fifteenth centuries, while metalwork from the graves demonstrates activity from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries. Seven radiometric dates from skeletal material support seventeenth- to nineteenth-century dates for the burials. The surviving chapel fabric relates principally to the renewal of the structure in the seventeenth century as a mausoleum for the Munros of Foulis. Includes specialist reports on
