Industry and domesticity: exploring historical archaeology in the Ironbridge...

Interim report on the work of the Coalbrookdale Historical Archaeology Research and Training (CHART) programme, inaugurated in 2001 by Ironbridge Archaeology, the aim of which is to examine elements of the archaeology of Coalbrookdale that have previously been overlooked. Includes a report on work at Upper Forge, a site in continuous domestic and industrial occupation from at least the seventeenth century until the 1960s, the nucleus of which was a water-powered forge. Investigations under the CHART programme focused on other industrial activities at the site, including innovative ferrous industries in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, a malthouse and various small-scale industries, and on domestic occupation.
