Abstract
Tot aquarum tam multis necessariis molibus... Recent studies on aqueducts and water supply
Roger J A Wilson
5 - 29
A review of recent work, with particular reference to Trevor Hodge's Roman aqueducts and water supply (1992). Also covers water mills.
Rock crystal: the key to cut glass and diatreta in Persia and Rome
Michael Vickers
48 - 65
Considers the relative rarity of rock crystal artefacts from the period and compares them with glassware, which survives more commonly and was less highly-prized in antiquity. The best vasa diatreta, or `cage cups', are thought to have been cut from rock crystal, while examples in glass (such as the British Museum's Lycurgus cup) probably had lesser status, despite the high-quality of the work involved in their construction. (See also 98/1537.)
Convivial spaces: dining and entertaining in the Roman villa
Katherine M D Dunbabin
66 - 80
General study which is based on evidence from Continental sites.
