234 - 236
Excavations near Westminster found a cemetery for horses and dogs. Radiocarbon dating points to a late medieval date for the burials. Most of the horses were stockily built males, often of an advanced age with bone deformities suggesting the animals had been used for heavy work.
Bones
The work of MoLAS palaeopathologists. Looks at work on diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis, the presence of tuberculosis in monastic burials, the finding of female skeletons in supposedly `all male' monastic cemeteries and the finding of over 3,000 skeletons at Spitalfields.
The discovery of a stone sarcophagus in Spitalfields
Report of the discovery of a stone sarcophagus which contained a lead coffin. When opened, as part of a media event, the skeleton of a young woman was found. The grave goods are briefly described.
