Littlehay

Fieldwalking and subsequent excavation have revealed a Romano-British aisled barn in Derbyshire. Built in the second century and demolished in the third, the barn had a series of corn drying hearths. Evidence of Iron Age activity was also found on the site.

A study examining a range of foot shapes which it is believed reflect certain ethnic groups and which can therefore be used in archaeological investigations.
Newark Castle

Review of a range of projects of various dates (prehistoric, Roman, and Saxon) carried out by a non-professional archaeologist.
The Cerne Giant
Rodney Castleden
468 - 469
Geophysical prospection has been carried out in order to determine the full extent of the hill figure at Cerne Abbas. It is proposed that he carries a cloak over his left arm. A prehistoric date, perhaps Iron Age, is suggested for the figure, as opposed to the seventeenth-century date argued by some.
John Musty's Science Diary

Hominid evolution -- species variation and habitat of Paranthropus or Australopithecus boisei; the evolution of language; mammal and bird bone assemblages from Norwich; tree-ring dating of earthquakes; the new RCHME data service; the excavation of human remains in Scotland; identifying the `black stones' of King Offa; the Ancient Biomolecules Initiative.
Botel Bailey
Alastair Penman
473 - 475
Excavations within the bailey of Botel Castle, in Galloway, have revealed traces of a road surface, medieval coins and pottery and numerous iron siege-arrowheads. Traces of defensive earthworks and timber structures, thought to be linked to the siege of the castle at intervals between 1307 and 1313 were also found. A range of material from earlier periods was also found.
