Reports on a project undertaken in partnership between the EH Ancient Monuments Lab and Oxford University. Non-invasive magnetometry surveys have been used to help characterise the archaeological remains within Iron Age hillforts in the Wessex area.

Highlights the value of the Monuments at Risk Survey (MARS), calling it the `first general census of the archaeology of England'. Proposals for further work, MARS 2, are also noted.
