Abstract: |
Margaret c Scott discusses 'The dangers of "Clause 19" ' (the clause in the private bill on the King's Cross Railway Development which seeks to remove all statutory controls from listed buildings and conservation areas in this development). Jennifer A Page looks at other inadequacies in protection, with special reference to the White Paper on The future of development plans. Nigel Clubb describes computing developments in the English Heritage Record Office. Philip Whitbourn looks at the Royal Opera House development project in Covent Garden, where well-argued objections have produced some improvements to the original scheme, though more are needed to safeguard the area. Steven Brindle & Roger Thomas explain the dilemma of the Globe Theatre site, most of which is covered by a listed building of 1837. Nigel Crowe describes the architectural heritage survey on British Waterways canals. Oliver Pearcey writes on places of worship - statutory controls, church archaeology, church grants, and the special position of cathedrals. Other topics covered are satellite dishes on historic buildings and the 'excavation' work at the burnt site of Uppark House. |
