Reports on the excavation of an Early Bronze Age barrow in 1930. The barrow was found to contain a stone cist, and the remains of two individuals, an adult of c. 30--40, and a juvenile of between 3--8 years. One of the cist's slabs was found to have been decorated with carving, including seven footprints, an oblong and ten cupmarks.

Investigations ahead of the construction of a new road intersection revealed traces of Late Neolithic--Late Bronze Age activity in the area. The main phase of prehistoric occupation comprised the remains of four MIA roundhouses varying in diameter from 10--14m and many associated features. This appeared to be the remains of a single, probably short-lived, settlement dated to between 500 and 300 BC. These remains were partly overlain by deposits of Romano-British date representing five phases of occupation from the early--mid-second century AD until the late-fourth or early-fifth century AD. The Romano-British remains, which appear to represent some form of ancillary enclosure, possibly industrial, included the southern boundary of the settlement, extensive cobbled surfaces, a masonry structure of uncertain function, drystone walls, drainage gullies, a well, a metalled trackway and stone quarries.
